New Patients: What to Expect?
We’re excited to welcome you to our practice and make your first visit as easy as possible.
Before your appointment:
You will receive a digital intake form to complete in order to secure your appointment. Once this intake form is completed, your appointment will be confirmed.
In addition, if you have seen other eye care practitioners, please bring (or release) your records to our clinic, including previous and current treatments or prescriptions for your dry eye care.
At Your Initial Dy Eye Evaluation:
A Comprehensive, Personalized Evaluation:
Your initial dry eye examination is designed to be both comprehensive and highly personalized. We begin with an in-depth review of your ocular and overall health history, taking the time to understand not only your symptoms, but also the factors that may be contributing to them.
This includes a detailed discussion of your lifestyle, current and past treatments, medications, and any underlying systemic conditions. By looking at the full picture, we are able to better understand your unique experience and lay the foundation for a truly tailored approach to your care.
Collaborative Whole- Person Approach:
Because dry eye disease is often influenced by underlying systemic conditions or medications, we take a comprehensive view of your overall health.
When appropriate, Dr. Beckman will collaborate closely with your other healthcare providers to ensure all contributing factors are fully evaluated and addressed.
This coordinated approach allows us to design the most effective, personalized treatment plan possible- focused not only on relieving your symptoms, but on improving your long-term eye health.
Advanced Diagnostic Testing:
Your evaluation also includes extensive, non-invasive diagnostic testing using advanced technology to assess each layer of the tear film with precision. This detailed analysis allows us to identify the specific sources of dysfunction contributing to your dry eye disease.
We utilize specialized imaging and vital dyes to carefully evaluate the surface of the eye- including the cornea and the conjunctiva- as well as the health of the eyelids and mechanics of how they function.
During your visit, Dr. Beckman will review these images and findings, so you can clearly see and understand your dry eye disease, creating a more informed and collaborative approach to your care.
Your Personalized Treatment Plan
At your visit, Dr. Beckman will take the time to thoroughly evaluate and explain your unique dry eye diagnosis, including the underlying causes and contributing factors specific to you. Education is a key part of our process- you'll gain a clear understanding of what's driving your symptoms and how we can address them.
Together, we will design a customized treatment plan tailored to your eyes, your lifestyle, and your goals. You will leave your appointment with detailed, personalized recommendations and a clear path forward, including next steps and follow-up care.
Most importantly, this is not a one-time visit. It's the beginning of a partnership. We are on this journey together, and Dr. Beckman is truly looking forward to guiding you toward lasting relief and healthier eyes, and improved quality of life.
Returning Patients
Welcome back! Now that you are on your personalized treatment plan, Dr. Beckman will evaluate your progress and determine the next steps.

In the early stages of treatment, more frequent visits may be needed to help stabilize the ocular surface and optimize results. Once your condition is well-controlled, most patients transition to maintenance visits approximately every six months to help preserve long-term eye health and comfort.
